Yoon Yeo Jun
A visual artist, he uses neon to express his vivid imagination
We caught up with Yoon Yeo Jun in Seoul’s Gangnam neighbourhood at a local studio, while admiring some of his work.
My relationship with my mother had a massive impact on my life. Mostly joyful but sometimes tough - she supported my art from day one.
She would always the first to hit the like button on my Instagram posts and share it with her friends. I was her biggest star and she was my no.1 fan. Without her I wouldn’t have been strong enough to quit the 9-5 and become an artist, it’s petrifying waking up every morning to a blank canvas but that’s what makes it so exciting.
I’m sensitive though, too many thoughts buzzing around my head telling me I can’t create what I’m imagining. It’s hard but when this happens, I tell myself that there’s no reason to be nervous. When I was 20, I went to live in Apgujeong. I wanted to experience its amazing culture and fashion, but I was much bolder and outgoing back then. Now I’m balanced and considered. I think before I act.
DON’T RELY ON CHANCES. BE NATURAL AND ENJOY LIFE.
I believe that one day this change will help me be the kind of artist whose work flows naturally from the mind to any medium without error. If I’m enjoying my work and it feels natural, it means I’ll never look back, only forwards.
We’ve been brewing a premium pilsner with real substance since 1842. A naturally green hop aroma, a crisp finish and a clean, confident bitterness from the combination of two Hallertau hops: Emerald and Magnum.
